Reproductive care should be rooted in empathy, education, and equity.
Too often, Canada’s medical institutions leave people feeling unseen—systems shaped by exclusionary histories that continue to prioritize hierarchical, clinical expertise over lived experience. Historically, the voices of women and marginalized communities have been sidelined in favour of a narrow model of care—one that overlooks the rich knowledge held in bodies, relationships, and communities.
Birthhouse is here to centre the social, historical, and cultural forces that shape how we experience health—especially when it comes to pregnancy, birth, and beyond. By honouring experiential knowledge and reclaiming space in reproductive health, we aim to make care more inclusive, more supportive, and more human.
